Mo Farah held off his conqueror over 5,000m at London 2017, Muktar Edris, who lost second place as he dived for the line

Great Britain's Mo Farah won a thrilling 5,000m in the final track race of his career at the Diamond League event in Zurich. The 34-year-old, who has four Olympic titles, will concentrate on road races.

Chased down in the final 100 metres by Ethiopia's new world champion Muktar Edris, Farah won narrowly in a time of 13 minutes 06.05 seconds.

American Paul Chelimo was second as Edris, Farah's conqueror at London 2017, fell diving for the line.

Wayne Rooney

Manchester United and England‘s all-time leading scorer Wayne Rooney has announced his retirement from international football after turning down the chance to be part of the England squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers.

The Everton striker, 31, was asked by national coach Gareth Southgate to be involved in the games against Malta and Slovakia in the coming weeks but he decided to quit instead.

Rooney scored 53 goals in 119 games for the three lions.

Eni Aluko has alleged England women's national team manager Mark Sampson told her to make sure her Nigerian relatives did not bring the Ebola virus to a game at Wembley.

Striker Aluko last year made a series of allegations to the Football Association in a complaint about the behaviour of Sampson, who was subsequently cleared of racial discrimination, bullying and harassment following an independent inquiry commissioned by the governing body.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes it is possible that Lionel Messi's €300 million buyout clause could be activated.

Barcelona want a 8.5m euros (£7.8m) renewal bonus Neymar received for signing a five-year deal - just nine months before his move - returned.

The Brazil international made a record 222m euro (£200m) move to PSG in August after buying out his contract.

"The player's formal defence will be filed in due course," read a statement from the 25-year-old and his lawyers.
