With a double-legged qualifier in sight and a determination to make his fourth World Cup appearance, Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan, has entreated Ghanaians to believe in him and his colleagues to deliver.

Ghana’s qualification to the 2018 FIFA World Cup could be impaired if they lose any of their two qualifying matches against the Red Devils in Kumasi and Brazzaville. The Black Stars are also five points adrift of group leaders, Egypt, who will be welcoming the Cranes of Uganda at the Egyptian capital of Alexandria.

Addressing journalists in their first training session at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Asamoah Gyan said though the task seems insurmountable, there was still a possibility that the Black Stars could qualify to Russia next year.

The Executive Committee of the GFA held meetings late last week to consider some issues affecting the game in the country.

Below are some of the key decisions taken.

CAF Visit to Ghana: The Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s Executive Committee will visit Ghana next month led by the body’s President Ahmad Ahmad.

The delegation will arrive in Ghana on 21st September and will pay a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Ghana His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The delegation will also hold various meeting before attending the Wafu Cup of Nations final on 24th September.

The Cape Coast Mysterious Abontoa Abontoa Dwarfs last Sunday beat Dansoman based side, Liberty Professionals by three goals to one at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Dwarfs begun the game so well after holding the Liberty midfield and making impressive incursions in the away team’s goal area.

They eventually had a goal in the 20th minute of the game through a header from J. E Amuah Mensah on a cross form defender Isaac Kwain. Their goal was later disallowed by the referee.

The Black Stars B are expected to resume camping on Thursday August 31 as they prepare for the WAFU tournament.

Ghana will face Gambia in the preliminary round of the competition which will be staged in Cape Coast and Takoradi from September 9-24.

The Head Coach of the Black Stars of Ghana - James Kwesi Appiah is calling for support ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifying game against Congo which is scheduled for Friday September 1.

Coach Kwesi Appiah last week named his 24–man squad that will face the 'Red Devils' of Congo at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and in the second leg in Brazzaville on September 5.

The Kwasi Appiah Foundation has been inaugurated after a brief ceremony was held at the Accra City Hotel on Thursday afternoon.

The foundation which was established by the head coach of the Black Stars in May 2017 seeks to help in the development of retired sports personalities through financial assistance, health aid and skill development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kwasi Appiah reiterated on the need to give back to the sports that has brought him far as he seeks to improve the plight of former footballers.
