Mali beat Ghana’s Black Starlets by a lone goal to clinch the 2017 Africa U17 Championship in Gabon. This has made Mali the first African country to retain the African U17 title.
Mamadou Samake scored the only goal of the game from a penalty spot after Ghana defender John Otu had brought down Mali attacker Facinet Doss Soumah in the penalty area.
Mali looked the better side as they created most of the chances in the game. The defending Champions could have been two goals up before the break after Facinet Doss Soumah fluffed a golden opportunity in the 43rd minute.
Ghana was named the fair play team at the tournament. Ghana scored nine goals in five matches and finished as the team with the least number of bookings.
The team will now shift their focus to the FIFA U17 World Cup which takes place in India in October this year.
