Assembly sitting at the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira district assembly was disrupted on Tuesday morning by some irate NPP youth alleged to be supporters of the Member of Parliament [MP] of Hemang Lower Denkyira Bright Wereko Brobbey.

According to a source at the assembly, the youth claimed the District Chief Executive [DCE] of Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira, Emmanuel Kojo Nanah has refused to lay-off staff of the assembly to pave way for their employment.

The DCE in the heat of the attack was swiftly whisked into an office and locked to prevent an attack on him.

The irate youth, ATL FM News gathers, drove staff out of the assembly’s premises.

The assembly member for Watreso, Isaac Smith Acquah, said the youth attacked while sitting was in session. They turned the place upside down; collapsing erected tents and scattering chairs.

“We were deliberating on issues when the youth launched the attack. We had to run for our lives. The DCE was swiftly whisked into an office and locked to prevent a possible attack on him”.

He said the police at the scene looked on helplessly because of the numbers. “We called for reinforcement from the central police command to calm the situation”, he said.

He added that the assembly members are traumatized. “One member sustained a cut on the forehead and many have been beaten”, he added.

He blamed the MP for a comment he made which suggested that some NDC party supporters were enjoying certain privileges under the current NPP administration. This, Mr. Smith Acquah said caused the youth to unleash their anger on members of the assembly.

On the whereabouts of the MP, Mr. Smith Acquah said, “Everybody was running for his life so I can’t tell”.
