Global confidence in US leadership has fallen to a new low, and the country now ranks below China in worldwide approval ratings, according to a new Gallup poll.

The survey of opinion in 134 countries showed a record collapse in approval for the US role in the world, from 48% under Obama to 30% after one year of Donald Trump – the lowest level Gallup has recorded since beginning its global leadership poll over a decade ago.

The result comes after a separate Gallup survey found that Trump reaches the first anniversary of his inauguration with the lowest average approval rating of any elected president in his first year.

Prominent Zimbabwean politician Roy Bennett has been killed with his wife in a helicopter crash in North America.

The couple died along with three others when the aircraft crashed on Wednesday in a mountainous area in the US state of New Mexico. One person survived.

Mr Bennett, 60, was a former white farmer who became a stalwart of the opposition party Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced that she is pregnant. 

Ms Ardern said she and her partner, Clarke Gayford, were expecting their child in June, after which she planned to take a six-week break.

"And we thought 2017 was a big year!" she wrote on Instagram.

The spoof short video was published on YouTube in the wake of a political backlash against Trump's alleged description of immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador, and unspecified parts of Africa as "all these people from shithole countries."

Religious and Guidance Minister Reverend Godfridah Sumaili has announced that Zambia will pray and fast from Monday, 15th January, 2018 to 21st January, 2018 for rains and against cholera outbreak.

Rev. Sumaili has since called upon every Zambian to offer 30 Minutes of Prayer for seven days as the church joins the war against the Cholera outbreak.
