The United States embassy in Accra has honoured the sacrifice of Pfc. Emmanuel Mensah, a Ghanaian-born soldier in the U.S. Army who died whiles saving people trapped in a New York apartment fire in December 2017.

The embassy also sent condolences to the families of all persons affected by the fire. Records indicate that 12 people including four children were lost in the fire.

The US government is cutting almost all security aid to Pakistan, saying it has failed to deal with terrorist networks operating on its soil.

The state department said the freeze would remain in place until Islamabad took action against the Haqqani network and the Afghan Taliban.

Earlier this week, President Trump accused Pakistan of lying and deceiving the US while receiving billions in aid.

Australia plans to legalise the exportation of medicinal cannabis

The Australian government has said it aspires to be the world's leading exporter of medicinal cannabis.

The nation plans to change its regulations to join Canada and the Netherlands in selling products beyond a domestic market. Uruguay and Israel have announced similar plans.

Health Minister Greg Hunt said the move would also help local patients.

Mercenaries have attempted to launch a coup in the Western African state of Equatorial Guinea, its government says. At least 30 armed men from Chad, Cameroon and the Central African Republic were arrested late last month, a minister said.

They were found with rocket launchers, rifles and ammunition just over the border in Cameroon, he added.

The government of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema is often accused of corruption and human rights abuses.
