4-year-old dies in Central Region after Monday’s heavy down pour

A four-year-old girl is reported to have died at Assin Damang in the Central Region when a building collapsed and fell on six persons as a result of Monday’s heavy down pour.

Ama Aboagyewaa, a Kindergarten 1 pupil was the only one who met her untimely demise while the other five victims sustained various injuries. ATL FM News gathers, four of the victims had serious injuries while the fifth suffered minor wounds. All five have received the needed medical attention.


Mr. Eric Arthur, the Central Regional PRO of NADMO who confirmed the development told ATL FM News the building in question was a weak and dilapidated structure which gave in during the rains on Monday injuring five persons and killing one.

In the Central Region, NADMO indicates that four districts which include Awutu Senya East, Assin South, Gomoa East and Mfantseman were heavily affected by the rains.

At Gomoa East, seven (7) private houses were affected with valuables running into thousands of Ghana Cedis destroyed. The situation at Mfantseman was no different as fire gutted a house destroying all personal belongings of its occupant. The floods also cut off access to the Mankessim Hospital.

Mr. Arthur also indicated that at Efutu, parts of some buildings have been destroyed with no casualties recorded. He said NADMO officials were assessing the situation.


The Central Regional PRO of NADMO tells ATL FM News the organization is working to get some relief to the victims in the affected areas.
