The Daughter of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Samiah Yaba Nkrumah has re-emphasised political unity of the African continent as the only means by which the continent can redeem itself from the shackles it is in.
She says, Africa is being exploited because the small sizes of the economies of African countries make them not viable for competition with bigger economies.
Madam Samiah Yaba Nkrumah was guest speaker at the 20th anniversary celebration of the Kwame Nkrumah Hall, “The Hall of excellence” University of Cape coast over the weekend. She says we must be guided by the concept of Organization which Nkrumah championed to forge ahead in achieving the African dream.
“I know things are not very easy for our students, our tutors and our lecturers. We are aware of the challenges and we are not alone. The whole global economy is not working in our interest and the size of our countries are too small for us to challenge the bigger blocks and insist on owning our resources other than controlling our economy. There are 55 African countries who are more or less in the same situation. We are succumbing to exploitation because we are divided into small economically and viable space. The way forward is for us to unite politically that will guide our economic integration.”
She says it is time to delve into the writings of Kwame Nkrumah to build the consciousness and courage needed to achieve the African vision.
“The most important thing we can do is to arm ourselves with the right consciousness while we are studying formally. It will be of great help if we ought to imbibe a pan African spirit and knowledge.”
