The Minister of Railways Hon. Joe Ghartey has noted with great concern the need for Ghana to have a well-defined private public partnership law to facilitate the award of contracts for investors.

He said though the country has sufficient laws on foreign investment, a law that defines terms of the award of contracts to investors will serve a great interest for the country and ensure transparency.

Hon. Joe Ghartey made the statement while delivering an address on the topic, “Advancing Infrastructural And National Development Through A Legal Frame Work: The Place Of Private Public Partnership”, at the third Jurist Confab organized by the faculty of law of the University of Cape Coast.

Hon Joe Ghartey said Ghana has a robust frame work that allows private sectors to participate in the development of the nation. This, he said, will be strengthened if a law is passed to guide this frame work.

The Confab which hosted legal experts who spoke on selected topics also hosted the Dean of the faculty of Law of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. Lydia Apori Nkansah who spoke on “Democratic Transitions In The Fourth Republic”.

She said Ghana has to adapt concrete structures to make future transitions peaceful. This, she said, could be achieved if the office of the Administrator general is well equipped to be effective in the transition process.

Dr. Apori Nkansah added that government needs to sensitize the public to understand the importance and role of transitions in a democratic dispensation. Failure to do so, she warned, could affect the country’s democracy.
