The Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko has indicated staff of ECG who are seeking severance packages should produce their resignation letters for their due to be given them.
On Tuesday, members of the Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU) picketed the premises of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), demanding severance packages for ECG staff before they participate in the privatization of the company.
Staff of the company have vehemently displayed their discontent over the privatization of ECG due to fears of losing their jobs.
At an interaction with the press on Wednesday the minister of energy noted that the staff of ECG have the option of choosing between producing their resignation letters for the severance packages they are demanding or maintain their status as staff of the company and roll over the benefits due them after the privatization.
Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko
““…If you decide to leave ECG, then you will be paid your severance, but you should not have the expectation or guarantee that the new company will take you on… So it is opened, all the ECG workers who want to leave and not join the new company are at liberty to do so and their severance so arranged.”, he said.
Mr. Agyarko shied from touching on the strike by the staff of the company indicating that was a purely labour related matter hence, he would prefer the minister of employment to deal with it.
On the fact that staff of the company claim they do not understand the terms of the concession in principle, he directed their leadership back to the table.
