Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Effective September 1, 2017, all Customs road barriers in Ghana are to be removed and the personnel deployed elsewhere, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has announced.

This is part of three major policy initiatives which the Vice President announced at the Port Efficiency Conference in Accra on Wednesday.

The others are mandatory joint inspection of goods at the Ports by GCNET and West Blue and the Ports going paperless.

The Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo, has appealed to operators of the school feeding programme to exercise restraint as the ministry is working to honour monies due them by the end of May this year.

She said the Ministry admits its indebtedness to these suppliers and is working round the clock to comply with the conditions of the contracts between them.

According to her, the agitations of the operators come to the ministry as a surprise since a consensus on the payment of the amounts involved was reached at a meeting with the media, cooks and suppliers to the program.

Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has outlined three major strategies to formalize Ghana's economy.

Giving his keynote address at the maiden national policy summit held at the Accra International Conference Centre, Monday, the Vice President said a formalized economy represents the single most important transformation of the economy of any country.

Providing details of the strategies geared towards formalizing the economy, Dr Bawumia listed plans by the government to issue national ID cards; provide digital addresses for all residences, and to ensure an interoperability of the telecom and financial sectors of the economy.
