The UCC district Police Command has arrested another robber at Kwaprow after a previous swoop at various points and crime prone areas on campus which led to the arrest of nine suspects.
In the latest arrest, the suspect, Isaac Kofi Grumah also known as “Short Bread” aged twenty years admitted to cutting nylon nets in the homes of unsuspecting victims’ and robbing them off their personal belongings.
At a press briefing on Monday, the UCC district Police Commander, ASP Amadu Mohammed Awal said the suspect’s mode of operation is that in the wee hours of the morning depending on the weather, he enters the compound of victims, stands behind their windows and cuts the nets. He then threatens the victims to cooperate or risk being killed. He usually will demand mobile phones and cash at hand from his victims.

‘Short Bread” after taking the phones extends his robbery to friends and relatives of his victims creating the impression that he has kidnapped them. He demands that specific amounts be paid by the relations or lose the victims.
In his latest mission which led to his arrest, the suspect on May 11, 2018 at about 0500 GMT used the same modus operandi and forcibly collected mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money from the complainant. He then proceeded to use the phones of the complainant to call her sister and friends demanding various sums of money ranging from GHS500 to GHS2, 000.00. He instructed that the monies be paid to the complainant’s phone without delay, threatening to kill her.
A complaint was lodged with the police and through intelligence gathering the suspect was arrested. The complainant’s sim card was retrieved from the suspect.
Suspect Isaac Grumah admitted to committing the offence in his caution statement and is currently in police custody assisting with investigation.
ASP Awal appealed to members of the general public who have fallen victim to the suspect to contact the police to assist in investigations.
