The Chairperson of the Council of University of Cape Coast, Mrs. Nancy Thompson has challenged the university to adopt more self-oriented approaches to help solve difficulties it is faced with.
She believes the university is highly enriched with knowledge and resources that can be put into use to address its problems.
Mrs. Thompson says, the university depending solely on government for development will be a shot in the foot as chalking certain achievements will be difficult. She notes a lot depends on the university itself to improve upon the development of the school and the nation as a whole.
The Council chairperson said these in an academic staff meeting she had with the School of Biological Sciences on Tuesday. The purpose of the meeting was to brief the Council Chairperson on the activities, achievements and the challenges of the School.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Nancy Thompson indicated it is high time the university made use of its available resources to promote and enhance development within and also overcome problems it is confronted with. She says though the university needs support from government, much is expected to be done by the university itself.
The Council Chair called on the university and specifically the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences to venture more into research and channel findings of such towards developing the country.
