The Confucius Institute of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) with support from the Confucius Headquarters and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China has held a public lecture on the theme, “China-Ghana Diplomatic Relations”.
The lecture which was delivered by the Chargé D’Affaires, Mr. Jiang Zhouteng of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China on Tuesday focused on the past, present and future relations between the two countries.
He indicated that the diplomatic relationship between China and Ghana has highly remained cordial. With Ghana being the second African country after Guinea to establish such relations with China, the two countries have achieved fruitful economic and trade cooperation.
He indicated the two countries have witnessed the flourishing of people to people exchanges.
“The two countries are very firm and solid. We have seen high level visits between us. We have also seen very frequent fruitful economic and trade corporations between us. The current status of our relationship is satisfying and has brought a lot of benefits to the people from both countries and we are confident that the future of our bilateral relationship will be brilliant with great potentials”, he said.

Mr. Zhouteng indicated that China regards Africa as a very important partner and Ghana is China’s one most important partner on the continent. He noted China is committed to forging new international relations with the core focus a win-win cooperation to promote a community of a shared future for mankind.
He also indicated that China will be investing in a number of projects in Ghana.
“There will be number of projects to be implemented in the near future such as the Jamestown fishing project which will be implemented after the designing process is complete. There is also a number of projects to be carried out in the near future which will be mutually beneficial to both countries”.
On his part, the Honourable Deputy Central Regional Minister, Mr. Thomas Agyei Baffour who chaired the event praised the significant contribution and support China has rendered to Ghana over the years.
He was optimistic the relations between the two countries will continue to be cordial. He again extended an arm of appreciation to the Chinese and appealed for more support especially in the railway sector to improve Ghana’s transport system and also create employment opportunities for Ghanaians.

Present at the event was the Head of the UCC Primary School, the Deputy Director of the Cape Coast Technical University Language Centre, Head of the University Practice Senior High School, Chief Supt. Ken Arhinful of the Ghana Immigration Service in the Central region among others.
