The 2018/2019 Students' Representative Council (SRC) presidential race of University of Cape Coast turned out to be a keen contest between Kingsley Sarpong Akowuah and John Kpodo. There were only 161 vote’s difference between the two.
John Kpodo was declared winner after he polled 3,574 votes representing 33.63 percent. But who is John Kpodo?
He is a professional teacher who has taught for four years at the JHS Level. He is a former SRC Leader of Mampong Technical College of Education who rose to the position of the National Coordinator of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana.
He says, “It is my vision to build an SRC that is revered by management; an SRC that will truly advocate students’ interests”.

The new SRC president, per his campaign, wants his administration to focus on administration and guidance, academics and development of students, transport, health, welfare and security.
One interesting highlight in his campaign was to avoid, as much as possible, the financial burden on students through the implementation on new projects.

He rather seeks to ensure the progress of some existing initiatives adopted by the immediate past administration. In fact, he commends Tony Henry Arthur’s Administration for a good work done.
He wants his administration to maintain the ongoing ‘better lecture theater initiative’ that was initiated by the previous administration to renovate or improve some broken down or deteriorated user facilities in terms of lightening, replacement of spoilt fans, nets and particularly the wet cleaning of lecture theaters. According to him, the era of dry cleaning must end.

Other major initiatives include providing soft past questions at various libraries, organize career development programmes for students and an initiative to educate level 100’s on the calculation of CGPA and to ease congestion in existing bus system.
Mr. Kpodo is a level 300 B.Ed Science student. He had for his running mate, Miss Yvonne Ashong, who is currently the SRC Vice president elect. They campaigned under the slogan, “Sir John”.
