GNPC Establishes Chair At UCC Institute for Oil and Gas

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation {GNPC} has established a chair at the Institute for Oil and Gas of University of Cape Coast {UCC}. By this establishment, the University is mandated to place an advertisement to seek the services of a full Professor in the area of petroleum commerce.

The major objective of the chair would be to facilitate the sustainable development of the commerce of Ghana’s hydrocarbon deposits, while providing a reference point for developing similar technical capacity in Africa.

At a ceremony to sign a Memorandum of Understanding {MoU} involving a one {1} million dollar agreement, it was revealed that the establishment of the chair at UCC is in response to a request placed by the College of Humanities and Legal Studies to support them in the area of Petroleum commerce. The agreement is for a period of four years.

The Chief executive officer for the GNPC, Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong who led his team and signed for the Corporation observed that a collaboration with the academia is necessary since it will blossom in the near future. He cautioned that once the money is made available, they expect to see results.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ghartey Ampiah who initialed for UCC believed that the University would make a greater impact with this support from the GNPC.

He considered the partnership as the topmost since 1962. Professor Ghartey Ampiah urged faculties involved to do their bit to help achieve results.
