The Central Regional Police PRO, ASP Irene Oppong has revealed that four murder cases recorded in the region within the first month of the year 2018 were as a result of drug addiction.

If it can be recalled, a murder case recorded at Mempeasem, a suburb of Cape Coast, had a brother killing his own sister and another murder case had a gentleman in Kwapro killing his ex-fiancée. These are just two of the gruesome murder cases recorded in the region.

Responding to issues on the number of murder cases reported in the region, ASP Irene Oppong revealed that investigations made by the police show the background of murder suspects arrested were drug addicts, making it the major cause of most murder cases in Central Region.

“Four murder cases that have been recorded in this first month of 2018 in the region especially in cape coast were as a result of drug addiction on the part of the suspects and this is based on some investigations the police made after the incidents”.

The police are always available and we have our men on standby at the station, ever ready to serve. Even though we cannot totally eliminate crime rate, we have been able to minimize it.”

“We normally go unannounced to the hide outs of the drug addicts to arrest them during our routine swoops. We will continue to do this. We admonished parents to advice their kids who are into drug abuse because, they will be the first to be attacked if they don’t bring them under control”.

ASP Irene Oppong further called on citizens in the region to be extra vigilant as robbers are using new techniques in attacking people in their homes.

We admonish that, we walk in groups and not alone. There is also a new trend armed robber’s use. They park in front of your gate and play loud music to ward off passersby while they steal from you in your homes. Kindly be extra vigilant and inform the police when such occurrences happen near you.
