UCC Dept. Of Fisheries Pledges Support Towards Sanitizing Beach Communities

The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, University of Cape Coast [UCC] has pledged to support residents of communities along the beach within the Cape Coast Metropolis to sanitize their environment.

According to a senior lecturer of the department, Mr. Joseph Sefah Debrah, who disclosed this on ATL FM’s 'Agyanom Aferfo' on Tuesday, the department is committed to assist the fisher folks at “Abrofo Mpoano” in the Cape Coast Metropolis to deal with sanitation problems confronting them.

Contributing to a discussion with the newly installed care –taker chief fisherman for the metropolis, Mr. Debrah said the fisher folk know what needs to be done to keep their environment clean yet fail in that regard.

As a means to give them the needed push to maintain good hygienic practices, the department would assist them through any means possible to assist them.

He also advised the fisher folks to avoid practices that have the potency to destroy their trade and urged the care-taker chief fisherman to step his authority in punishing culprits who are caught engaging in illegal fishing activities. He advised the chief fisherman to avoid favoritism and allow the law bite when necessary.
