The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu has extended his warmest felicitation to Commonwealth Hall as it marked 60 years of existence as a hall of residence of the university.
In a keynote speech read on his behalf by the Provost of the College Of Basic and Applied Science on Saturday, Professor Daniel Asiedu, the vice chancellor noted that “the hall has contributed its quota considerably towards the larger university and is one of the strategic assets of the University of Ghana”.
Professor Oduro Owusu further added that, “the hall has been at the forefront of total education and serves as a moral compass not only in Ghana but also internationally”.
He however highlighted the growing acts of indiscipline in the hall noting that “obviously, the hall alone cannot solve this problem”.
He also pledged the full support of University management towards realizing a more disciplined Commonwealth Hall.
The statement read on his behalf concluded by stating that “university management acknowledges the pool of wealth you offer and the shield you provide other members of the University against arbitrary invasion by foreign elements”.
The ceremony was attended by both old and present residents of the hall, many who shared their fond memories in the hall, some narrations dating back to more than 3 decades ago.
