Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu has extended his warmest felicitation to Commonwealth Hall as it marked 60 years of existence as a hall of residence of the university.

In a keynote speech read on his behalf by the Provost of the College Of Basic and Applied Science on Saturday, Professor Daniel Asiedu, the vice chancellor noted that “the hall has contributed its quota considerably towards the larger university and is one of the strategic assets of the University of Ghana”.

The announcement of the 19 billion dollar partnership between Ghana and China has sparked a debate among the general public and some civil society organisations.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia led the government team for the $15 billion funding partnership agreement and commitment reached between the governments of Ghana and China.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia revealed after a four-day visit to China, that the Nana Addo-led government is partnering its counterpart in China for the implementation of the economic transformation agenda.

Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Ghana, in a press statement has debunked rumours of plastic rice on the country’s market. The statement follows videos on social media claiming the existence of plastic rice which suggest that these may be on the Ghanaian market.

It indicated that FDA became aware of the videos late last year and immediately commenced investigations to ascertain the truth or otherwise of the rumours.

The investigation, the release said, used a nationwide market surveillance program with random samples being subjected to laboratory investigation. Results from laboratory analysis indicated that all samples were authentic rice and not plastic.

The 2017/2018 University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council [UG-SRC] administration led by Daniel Otting Awuah have released a list of students who will work closely with their administration in the various SRC committees.

The names released also include students who have been assigned specific roles in the SRC.

In a statement signed by the SRC President, the executive committee of the SRC approved the nominations of the students who in the meantime will work in an acting capacity until the SRC General assembly approves their nomination.

Lecturer at Dept. Of English - UCC, Dr. Sarfo Sarfo Kantanka

A lecturer at the Department of English, University of Cape Coast, Dr. Kwabena Sarfo Sarfo-Kantanka, says it would be totally unfair for the Ghana Education Service (GES) to sanction the teacher in the Assin South District who was compelled to improvise the use of stones for a mouse in a computer class.

According to him, the GES cannot pretend not to be in the known of the lack of resources for teaching within the educational sector, especially when practical sessions are concerned.
