A two year old girl met her untimely death in the afternoon of Friday at Amamoma, one of the seven communities that surround the University of Cape Coast in the Central Region, the UCC District police has confirmed.
The deceased, Alisatu Habib, according to police report, fell unconscious after falling from a sofa she was sitting on, but died shortly after she was rushed to the University of Cape Coast hospital.
Police enquiry revealed that the deceased was living with her father Ali Habib and her step mother Priscilla Acquah who is now the suspect and in police custody.
On 13th July, 2018, the father left the house in the morning for work leaving the deceased in the care of her stepmother.
At about 12: 30pm the same day, the suspect left the deceased in the room to watch television while she went outside to wash.
After a while, the suspect allegedly heard the deceased scream prompting her to rush to the room only to find her lifeless body on the floor. According to police enquiry report, the suspect tried to revive her, but the deceased could not regain consciousness.
She was later rushed to the UCC hospital where a medical examination was conducted but found no sign of physical marks of abuse.
The body has since been deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital pending further investigation.
