Two persons were declared dead at the Trauma and Specialist hospital at Winneba in the Central region after a Nissan Hard body Pickup hit an unregistered “Mapuka” motorbike.
The accident occurred on Sunday November 25, 2018 on a section of the road between Apam and Winneba junction roundabout.
According to the PRO of the Central Regional Police Command, DSP Irene Serwaa Oppong, the Winneba Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), at about 10am on Sunday received information that a Nissan Hard body Pickup with registration number: GT 8265 - 16 had run into a motorbike.
Details further indicated that the pickup belongs to the campaign team of National Democratic Congress party (NDC's) flagbearer aspirant, Alban Bagbin. The Police gathered the vehicle was being driven by suspect driver Charles K. Owusu who was returning from his private trip from Cape Coast towards Accra. On reaching a section of the road in between Apam junction and Winneba roundabout, he knocked down two male adult motorists who were on an unregistered “Mapuka” motorbike.
The Police proceeded to the accident scene where the bodies of the two male adults were lying unconscious. They were conveyed to the Trauma and Specialist hospital where they were pronounced dead by experts and put in the morgue for preservation while the suspect driver was handed over to the Winneba Station Officer together with the accident vehicle and motorbike for testing and further investigation.
The Fire Service was called in to wash the blood on the accident scene.
