Two persons died and thirty others suffered various degrees of injury in a road crash early Wednesday morning in Cape Coast after a Hyundai Maxi bus with thirty-three passengers on board crashed into a MAN Diesel Container truck loaded with fish from Tema to Elmina.
According to the police, at about 12am Wednesday Morning, driver of the Hyundai Maxi bus, Douglas Opoku aged thirty-nine was heading from Takoradi to Accra. Upon reaching the part of the highway at Ameen Sangari Factory close to the UCC East gate, he allegedly overtook a leading vehicle in a curve and collided head-on with the oncoming truck.
Driver of the truck, Nicholas Abakah with two other occupants and the driver of the Hyundai bus sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to the UCC and Cape Coast Teaching hospitals for treatment.
A male adult died on the spot and a female adult also died shortly on arrival at the Cape Coast Teaching hospital. Both deceased persons were occupants of the Hyundai bus and their remains have been deposited at the morgue of the teaching hospital awaiting identification and autopsy.
Four of the casualties are reported to be in critical condition.
Both vehicles were damaged and portions of the load in the truck were also destroyed.
