The Electricity Company of Ghana says it has recovered GHS 483, 449.28 from costumers in the Central Region involved in illegal connections.
The costumers are 280 in number-202 residential and 78 commercial. They were surcharged to recover this amount during the company’s second quarter routine checks in 4,678 houses within the North and South Districts of Kasoa.
Central Regional Revenue Protection Manager of the ECG, Mr. Kow Ampah, told ATL FM News the routine check, which is to determine all installations are rightly done and all monies paid by costumers when due, is to ensure that illegal connections are reduced to the barest minimum.
The routine check, according to Mr. Ampah, revealed these individuals were involved in meter tampering, unauthorized service connections, meter by-pass, as well as non- payments of charges.
Mr. Ampah explained such acts have adverse effects on the company and cause financial losses which disrupt the effective work of the company.
He advised the general public to report people who indulge in illegal connections as there are surprise packages for persons who report such people to the ECG.
