Two siblings who have produced two children out of a secret amorous relationship which lasted years were yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment by a Circuit Court in Cape Coast for incest while the children will be in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare.

According to the PIAC chair, this raises serious concerns as it defeats the supervisory responsibility the MMDAs have towards ensuring the effective execution of such projects.

Chairman of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), Dr. Steve Manteaw says the essence of decentralizing of power to the regional level as well as various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies will be defeated if coordination between central government and these institutions is not effective.

He believes this will help relieve government of unnecessary costs, in terms of distributing relief items in case of any disaster.

 The central regional operations director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Richard Baffoe Asare says the orgainsation will soon embark on a hazard mapping exercise in the region. This exercise, he notes, will help NADMO inspect and identify all structures which pose a threat to lives and property, and demolish same if necessary.

President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI, Omanhene of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area has called on chiefs in the region to avoid outdated practices as forms of punishment in their respective traditional areas. He believes nanaanom should met out punitive acts that fall within the remits of the laws of the country.
