A World health organisation report indicates that about, 650,000 people in Ghana are suffering from a severe mental disorder while about 2 million people are suffering from a moderate to mild mental disorder. The treatment gap according to the report is 98% of the total population expected to have a mental disorder.

President of Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), UCC, Mr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu says the withdrawal of services by  GAUA at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) bears in its wings dire consequences taking into cognizance the constituents of the association.

In place of the council, a seven (7) member interim Council chaired by the Paramount Chief of the Bompata Traditional area, Nana Effah Apenteng has been instituted. The council has a three month tenure. Other members of the interim council include Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, Dr. Edward Baffoe-Bonnie and Madam Hilda Haggar Ampadu. The rest are Prof. Joshua Ayarkwa, Mrs. Abena Antwi and Mr. Kelvin Sah.
